There’s a certain kind of energy you can only get in a Brooklyn editorial engagement session — layered, textured, a little unpredictable — and Mattie & Arjun leaned all the way into it.
This wasn’t meant to feel like a traditional engagement session. It was built like an editorial — intentional, styled, and slightly unexpected in all the right ways.
Mattie’s red eyeshadow set the tone immediately. Bold, graphic, and effortlessly cool against the softness of her silk dress and veil. It gave the entire story an edge — something that felt fashion-first, not safe.
And then came the florals.
Designed by Flower Disco, the installation didn’t just complement the scene — it transformed it. The checker cab became the set. Draped, layered, and completely reimagined with florals that included unexpected elements like tomatoes woven throughout. It felt sculptural, a little rebellious, and entirely editorial — like something you’d see in a campaign rather than a wedding.
We started at sunset — clean, composed, letting the environment breathe. The light was soft, almost cinematic on its own, allowing us to create frames that felt structured and elevated.
And as the light dropped, everything shifted.
Flash came in. Movement loosened. The story got darker, moodier, more cinematic.
This Brooklyn editorial engagement session was designed to feel like a campaign — directional, refined, and completely immersive.
Inside the taxi felt intimate and almost voyeuristic — a quiet moment in contrast to the energy outside. On the street, it became sharper. The glow of signage, the texture of the city, the motion blur — all layered into something that felt alive and unrepeatable.
That contrast is what made it.
Soft veil against structured city lines. Organic florals against metal and chrome. Romance sitting right next to edge.
Not just documenting a couple — but creating a world around them, one that feels as elevated as it does real.

Mattie & Arjun’s Brooklyn editorial engagement session was edgy and fashion-forward — experimental, expressive, and unapologetically themselves. It wasn’t about over-directing, but about creating space for something honest to unfold with intention.
We’re Nicole and Michael, a husband-and-wife team of Chicago-based photographers and filmmakers, often traveling for engagement sessions in New York and beyond. We’ve seen how thoughtful collaboration — from planning to styling to design — shapes not just how something looks, but how it feels.
